SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL ADVISORY PANEL (STAP)

STAP was established in 2007 and consists of 7 members and a chairman appointed by Informatics Management Board (IMB) and drawn from senior scientists, clinicians and technical experts, providing a broad range of expertise.

Role

The role of STAP is to advise and be responsible to the IMB on scientific and technical matters relating to the NCRI Informatics Initiative, and in doing so, to contribute to the strategic direction of the initiative. This includes providing a strategic overview identifying areas that should be funded and formulate the areas which the proposed future call for proposals should encompass. STAP may be asked to advise on any or all of the following:

1. Scientific, technical merit and innovation of proposed research projects

2. The potential value of proposed infrastructure projects

3. Strategic fit, compatibility and interoperability among different projects supported under the initiative

4. Progress against objectives of projects and other activities already under way

Current Members

Professor Sir Michael Brady currently serves as chairman. He is an expert in the field of Medical Image Analysis and has had a long-term involvement with the NCRI Informatics Initiative, including membership of the NCRI Informatics Task Force. He brings a unique wealth of experience and expertise to his role.

Meetings

STAP meets at a frequency agreed by the IMB. Members may also occasionally be called on as individuals to advise on specific issues in their area of expertise.
