To enable us to maximize the impact the UK’s outstanding efforts in cancer research, treatment and prevention we need to deliver the platform as quickly as possible. You can help in our mission to beat cancer by using research knowledge more effectively. Help us go forward. Every pound really does count.
How can you get involved?
Informatics will enable the sharing of knowledge across disciplines, from DNA to clinical trials, and this will benefit patients and researchers by channeling the development of novel therapeutics and diagnostics in a more effective way.
By creating an environment that facilitates greater access to, and dissemination of, high-quality research data we will reduce duplication of effort, promote global sharing and re-use of data, and thus maximise the investment in cancer research. The information revolution has begun.
NCRI Informatics Initiative
Currently there are many local informatics resources and standards in the UK and internationally. Many of these are excellent research tools, but they have evolved separately and so present an incoherent, fragmented landscape. At present there is scattered funding and no national blueprint to follow. There is an urgent need for a clearly articulated strategy, a common technical framework to work to and dedicated funding to underpin the informatics components of research projects.
