Data Sharing in Clinical Trials Workshop Royal Society of Medicine, London, 23rd - 24th January 2006

Delegates at the workshop Dr Pablo Fernandez Professor John Toy

Clinical trials yield high volumes of diverse data which are relevant to the problem of cancer. The diversity and complexity encompassed within this data is great and can only be fully exploited by acquiring high quality data in standard formats, storing the data in appropriate repositories and enabling appropriate mining of that data to generate new knowledge. Furthermore, the issue of how to appropriately share data about, and the results from, clinical trials needs to be addressed due to changes in regulatory requirements. A 2-day workshop was held to discuss data sharing in clinical trials. Topics covered included:

  • Infrastructure and Tools for collection and dissemination of trial data
  • Standards for registering and reporting clinical trials
  • Data Sharing: policy and models of implementation
  • Current projects
  • Issues to be addressed

The workshop follows on from the “Integrating Functional Genomics and Clinical Trials” workshop that was held last year and identified this topic as requiring more detailed discussion. The presentations from the workshop are available below:
